• ValenLog App

Project: July 2020

Platform: Mobile application

Available on GooglePlay.

Team: Aurélio Ribeiro (project manager); Sidney Figueira (back-end developer); Saulo Duarte (front-end developer); Micaele Oliveira (UX/UI designer).

ValenLog Logística is a parking and road logistics company founded in 2019. It supports the port and other companies with the sorting and cleaning of trucks for loading and unloading agricultural cargo and deals with truck drivers in an important part of the process.

The challenge

With the increase in truck flow during the 2020 high season, combined with the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, call queues grew and became a growing concern. So we started looking for solutions to give truck drivers greater mobility and reduce face-to-face queues.

The goal

To reduce face-to-face queues, we focused on mobility for truck drivers using their cell phones, allowing free movement while waiting and considering the need for an easily accessible and usable solution to cover as many users as possible.

My function

I participated mainly as the Visual and UX Designer and representative of the Marketing sector, advocating for how to incorporate the new product into the company's structure and the company into the new product. I worked directly with senior management, the logistics department, and the development team to find good visual solutions.

Research and design

As the company was already up and running during the development of the project, we already had a variety of system data on who our users were, in addition to having the opportunity to closely observe their behavior. In this way, we were able to rely on quantitative and qualitative data right at the beginning of the project, noting that our users are drivers who unload soybeans and load fertilizers, familiar mainly with cell phones.android e frequently use mobile internet for services and communication. We also found that the biggest reason for high queue movement is the rush to board or disembark, since the faster they do it, the faster they get paid for the freight.

During the process, the time development team stipulated some limitations according to system needs (mainly related to size, security and permissions) and then followed up with benchmarking similar ones with the logistics team to find patterns and opportunities. Through brainstorm sessions we set up the user flow and through it I made prototypes for approval with stakeholders and users through usability tests, mainly checking readability and ease of use

Solutions, results and opportunities

System Notifications

To speed up the transfer of some information between the system (attendants) and truck drivers, we added a unilateral notification tab.

Integration with other activities

As ValenLog is located in a complex (Valen Shopping) with several other services, this feature serves as information for possible distractions while the user waits for his call.

Call to sorting queue

Solving the user's biggest pain, the main function of the application is to signal with notifications and touches (if you choose) that the truck driver is being called to appear in the sorting room.

Load data visualization

With the registration done, the operations and load data are immediately updated in the application to keep the user abreast of the system status.

What I've learned

The ValenLog app was an exceptional experience for me. I was able to work with a very specific and differentiated niche, which is the road sector, and through that, I understood in practice how important the user is in making each design and development decision.

In addition, andThis was a project with enormous future potential for expansions and new features, where decisions needed to be left open for new opportunities to be developed, encouraging a lot of strategic thinking during development.
